Nash’s Diagnosis
On Tuesday, June 4, Nash was experiencing increased swelling, mainly in his hands and feet. He had been sick, mainly with an ear infection, so we wondered if it was a reaction to medication. I called a nurse line, and they said we didn’t need to go to the ER, but to go to OMC. The doctor there gave me the option to wait another day, or to to the Mayo ER. I went to the ER. Ryan had left for a work training 4.5 hours away early Tuesday morning, so I let him know I was going in. We ended up getting discharged after a few hours, with only a urine sample. We were told his kidneys were fine, and to follow up with our primary.
A few weeks ago, I had somewhat randomly booked an appointment with his primary (who I love!) for Wednesday. Luckily I had this set up, and could go in the next day. She immediately agreed with me that something was off and he wasn’t himself. She had seen him 1.5 months before. We check Nash’s CBC every 3 months, so he was also due for that. She had hoped as well that it was a reaction to a medication, or something weird, but we needed to get checked out. She wanted us to get bloodwork, and then she was going to call Mayo to ensure we aren’t discharged without testing again.
Getting bloodwork, especially while Nash was swollen, was extremely hard. We went to multiple places, and ended up with a heel prick. We waited a couple hours for the results.
